Why does route generation sometimes take a while?

flaneur builds every route from scratch using Apple Maps, assembling a unique path each time. If you regenerate several times in quick succession, a brief cooldown may occur due to mapping service limits. This usually lasts no more than a minute.

Does flaneur work without an internet connection?

An internet connection is needed to generate routes, since the app queries Apple Maps in real time. Once a route is generated, navigation can continue even if your connection becomes intermittent.

Can I use flaneur outside of Japan?

Yes. flaneur works anywhere Apple Maps provides walking directions. Please be mindful of your surroundings and local conditions when walking in unfamiliar areas.

Does the app track my location in the background?

No. flaneur only accesses your location while the app is actively in use. It does not request background location permissions.

How does the route history work?

flaneur saves a simplified outline of your recent walks on your device. This helps the app suggest streets you haven't visited recently. History is automatically cleared after 7 days and is never sent anywhere.

Does flaneur work with Apple Watch and Live Activities?

Yes. If the Apple Watch companion app is installed, you can follow the route from your wrist — current step, distance to the next turn, and arrival progress sync over from your iPhone. During navigation, a Live Activity also shows the next turn on the iPhone lock screen and Dynamic Island. Both features work entirely between your own devices.

Can I change the navigation voice or language?

Yes. In Settings you can pick a language (English, Japanese, French, Spanish, Chinese Simplified, or German) and a voice from those installed on your device, including Enhanced and Premium quality options. By default flaneur follows your iOS system language.

I'm getting a route that goes through an area I'd rather avoid.

You can regenerate the route from the preview screen for a different path. During navigation, you can also switch to the shortest route to your destination or end the session at any time. Always trust your own judgment about which streets to walk.

How much does flaneur cost?

flaneur is free at launch. There are no subscriptions, no in-app purchases, and no advertising. It is offered as a small, independent project — a quiet tool for walking.

flaneurは最近の散歩の簡略化された記録をデバイス上に保存します。これにより、最近通っていない道を優先的に提案できます。履歴は7日後に自動削除され、外部に送信されることはありません。

Apple WatchやLive Activityには対応していますか？

利用料金はかかりますか？
