flaneur is designed to keep your data where it belongs — on your device. This policy explains what information the app accesses, how it is used, and what is never collected.
Location. flaneur uses your location while the app is in use to generate walking routes and provide turn-by-turn navigation. Your location is sent to Apple Maps to calculate routes. It is not sent to any other server, and it is not stored beyond your current session.
Search queries. When you search for a destination, the query is sent to Apple Maps to return results. Your recent searches are saved on your device for convenience and can be cleared at any time.
Route history. flaneur stores a simplified record of your recent walks on your device. This is used solely to suggest routes you haven't walked before. Route history is automatically deleted after 7 days.
Step count. While you are walking with flaneur, the app reads your step count from Apple's motion sensor framework so it can be displayed on the navigation screen and Apple Watch. The step count is held in memory only for the active walk and is never saved, transmitted, or linked to your identity.
If you have an Apple Watch paired and the flaneur companion app installed, route information, current step, and progress are shared between your iPhone and Watch over Apple's encrypted device-to-device channel. Live Activities display navigation status on your lock screen using only system-provided UI. Neither feature transmits data outside your own devices.
flaneur uses Apple's MetricKit framework to receive anonymized crash reports and performance metrics — but only if you have opted in via Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements → Share with App Developers. This is an Apple-mediated channel: the data is processed and delivered by Apple, contains no personal information, and is used solely to fix bugs and improve app stability. You can opt out at any time in iOS Settings. flaneur uses no third-party analytics or crash reporting services.
Route generation and destination search rely on Apple's MapKit framework. These requests are handled by Apple under their own privacy policy. flaneur does not control or have access to any data processed by Apple Maps.
flaneur does not collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13. The app contains no content that is inappropriate for any age group.
If this policy is updated, the revised version will be posted at this URL with a new "last updated" date. flaneur will never begin collecting data without updating this policy first.
